The Best Wedding Venues in Hawke's Bay

The Hawke's Bay venues couples keep coming back to, with a note on who each one actually suits, from a NZ wedding photo & film team.

5 venues Hawke's Bay Updated July 2026

Hawke's Bay is wine country, so a LOT of the best wedding venues here are vineyards & wineries, rolling rows of vines, big open skies, & long golden evenings made for a party outside! We shoot weddings all over NZ, so here's our honest shortlist for the Bay :)

Same tip as always: lock your venue & date in first, then everything else builds around it. The good vineyard spots book out fast over summer (the Bay has some of the best weather in the country), so if a place feels like you, get in early!

The Old Mill

A hidden brick-courtyard garden in Napier's hills.

We shot A & T's wedding here & absolutely loved it! The Old Mill is tucked into the historic 1923 brick buildings of the old Napier Woollen Mill, up in the hills, with a gorgeous courtyard garden full of fountains, flowers & big gum trees.

Intimate & full of character (up to 90 guests), with wine barrels, lush greenery & pretty corners everywhere you look. A dream to photograph, & lovely for a smaller, relaxed Hawke's Bay wedding.

Black Barn Vineyards

Rolling vines & hills, just out of Havelock North.

Black Barn is one of those spots that just feels like Hawke's Bay, rows & rows of vines running up into the hills, with a few different spaces to choose from (the Olive Shed, the amphitheatre, the bistro).

It's relaxed but polished, & the golden evening light out here is genuinely something. A favourite for a long lazy vineyard wedding!

Craggy Range

Vines right under Te Mata Peak.

Craggy Range sits right at the foot of Te Mata Peak, & honestly the backdrop does half the work for you, big dramatic ranges behind rows of vines.

There's an award-winning restaurant, beautiful gardens & accommodation on site, so it works really well for couples wanting the whole weekend in one spot. On the higher end, & worth it.

Mission Estate Winery

NZ's oldest winery, in a grand heritage home.

Mission Estate is the oldest winery in the country (the monks planted vines here back in 1851!), & the old seminary building is stunning, all white heritage architecture up on the hill with views out over Napier.

It suits couples after something a bit grand & timeless, with real history behind it. Beautiful at dusk when the building's lit up.

  • Taradale

Clearview Estate Winery

A coastal winery at Te Awanga.

Clearview is right on the Cape Coast at Te Awanga, an owner-operated winery with gorgeous gardens, a relaxed restaurant & vines running down toward the sea.

It's got that laid-back coastal-Hawke's-Bay feel, & you're a few minutes from the beach. Lovely for a relaxed garden-and-vines kind of day.

  • Gardens + restaurant
  • Owner-operated since 1987

Common questions

How much do wedding venues in Hawke's Bay cost?

It's a wide range! A vineyard with catering & a full-service package sits well up there, while a simpler garden or DIY-style venue can be a lot less. Most don't list exact prices, so send them your date & guest number & ask for a quote, it moves a lot by season & day of the week.

When's the best time of year to get married in Hawke's Bay?

Summer & early autumn (November to April) are the classic run, the Bay gets some of the best, driest weather in the country, & the vineyards look incredible with the vines full. Autumn especially gives you those golden tones.

How far in advance should we book a Hawke's Bay venue?

The popular vineyard venues book out fast for summer Saturdays, often 12-18 months ahead. Lock your venue & date in first, then everything else (us included!) slots in around it.
